How to use:

This tool calculates the mass required for a solution based on molarity and molecular weight.

  • MW Lookup: Use the search bar to find the molecular weight of compounds via PubChem. Results will populate in the MW field automatically.
  • Solve for missing variables: Enter the Molecular Weight (MW) and any two other known values (Concentration, Volume, or Mass). Leave the field you want to calculate blank.
Example:

To prepare 500 mL of a 0.5 M Sodium Chloride (NaCl) solution:

  • Search "NaCl" to get MW: 58.44 g/mol
  • Enter 0.5 in Molar Concentration (M)
  • Enter 500 in Target Volume (mL)
  • Leave Mass blank and click Calculate.
  • Result: Mass = 14.6100 g
